Gus Campbell Solicitors was founded in May 1976 by Gus Campbell. He provided the highest quality legal service to the general public from his office in Church Street, Portadown. We have now been trading for over forty years. 

Over the years, the practice has grown into a dynamic and innovative law firm, representing clients throughout Northern Ireland in a wide range of legal matters.  We provide clear, concise and considered legal advice in an approachable, friendly and cost effective manner.  We protect our clients' interests positively, actively and professionally. Our Team

John McAtamney

Director

John obtained an Honours Degree in Law from Queen’s University, Belfast in 1992 and qualified through the Institute of Professional Legal Studies. He joined the practice in 1998, becoming a Partner four years later and currently leads our Criminal Law Department.He is an experienced and able criminal defence lawyer dealing with the defence of clients in relation to all crimes from speeding and drink driving in the magistrates’ courts to murder in the Crown Court and the Court of Appeal. John is available to attend with clients during police interviews as part of our 24 hour call out service, looking after clients from the beginning to the end of the Prosecution process. He has a particular interest in the areas of social welfare law including housing, health and social care, mental health, vulnerable adults and young persons and deprivation of liberty. John is a Solicitor Advocate, having completed the Advanced Advocacy Course of the Law Society of Northern Ireland, and has represented clients at Tribunals for Social Security Appeals, Employment, Mental Health Review, Housing Appeal, Immigration and Veterans. He has also experience in representation and submissions to a major public inquiry, at Inquests and Parole Commissioner Hearings. Email John

Michele Nugent

Director

Michele graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast in 1998 and, after obtaining her professional qualification from the Institute of Professional Legal Studies, commenced working with a Newry Practice in 2000. From the outset she has specialised in Family Law and Children’s Law. She is a member of the Children’s Order Panel and the Northern Ireland Guardian Ad Litem Solicitors Panel. She is on the International Children’s Order Panel and has represented the Central Authority in Hague Convention cases before the High Court.  Her admission to each of these bodies is testament to her experience and expertise in the difficult areas of custody, child abuse and child abduction.  Michele is a highly respected divorce lawyer handling marriage breakdown and financial claims after separation with sympathetic efficiency and professionalism. She has completed the Law Society’s Advanced Advocacy Course and her clients can expect skilled representation in the Family Courts, Divorce and Separation Courts. Email Michele

Geraldine McIntrye

Domestic and Commercial Conveyancing

Geraldine is a Queen’s University graduate and obtained her professional qualification at the University’s Institute of Professional Legal Studies. After a short apprenticeship in Belfast, she worked with Gus Campbell Solicitors gaining a wide experience in general practice but in particular in the field of residential and commercial conveyancing, land disputes, boundary issues, adverse possession (“squatters title”)  and general title issues. In 1998, Geraldine returned to work in her home town of Newry, building upon her expertise and experience and further gaining the respect and admiration of her clients and colleagues alike. In 2016, she returned to work with Gus Campbell Solicitors where she handles all domestic and commercial conveyancing, all land and property queries/issues as well as advising on liquor licensing and probate matters. Bernadette Hagan

Personal Injury

Bernadette Hagan graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast in 1998 and obtained her professional qualification from the Institute of Professional Legal Studies in 2001. Bernadette completed her apprenticeship with a local firm and then joined Gus Campbell Solicitors for the first time in 2001. She conducted a large caseload of mainly personal injury cases including road traffic accidents and credit hire cases, employers’ and public liability matters and clinical negligence cases in both the County Court and the High Court. Bernadette then gained further valuable experience in a leading personal injury firm in Belfast and also with a defence litigation firm in Belfast dealing with debt recovery matters and complex property damage claims as well as acting for insurers in personal injury claims. She returned to Gus Campbells in 2018 and handles all civil claims in the office having specialised in this field since 2001. She deals with all types of litigation from accidents at work and claims arising out of road traffic accidents to medical negligence and public liability claims. She has acquired a valuable bank of experts from medical consultants and financial loss assessors to specialist Counsel ( barristers) upon whom she can draw and rely to ensure her clients’ claims are properly and expertly dealt with from the outset and maximum compensation entitlement is achieved.
